Why all the changes to the website? Is Prophecy addicted to change?
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 4:34PM Tweet Well, yes, we are! But there are better reasons why we make changes to our site.
We as a company always want to improve our processes and the experience our customers have on our site. This often involves changes on the web site to improve how things are done. We’ve been especially busy over the last couple of months, making lots of small changes to the way our shop looks and runs.
I’m Juan Fourie, the developer for Prophecy.co.za. Periodically I’m going to comment on the changes to the front end on the blog, so that you can be aware of the changes on our site and can give me some feedback on these changes. One thing that should be mentioned is that most of the changes will be small and random because most of the large changes we make are on the backend. Henk and Paul have an eternal hunger for easier and more efficient processes, and I aim to satisfy that hunger! I might comment on these changes, but won’t be going into detail on them because it doesn’t directly affect our customers, and we don’t want to give away our magic to competitors!
So on to some minor changes we’ve made recently:
- The category list on the left hand side of our online store. I added in arrows to the category structure to more clearly show when a category has sub categories.
- I changed the look of the sub category page to make it more obvious that we have sub categories within certain categories. Here is an example of the Hard Drives category.
- The breadcrumbs have been cleaned up to make it easier to see what category the product is in.
- Links at the top right have been changed to make things more obvious. I also added links to the Forums, Blog, and our new Carbonite Classifieds.
- The create account page have been changed quite radically to make it simpler and less intimidating for someone to create a new account.
That’s it for the moment! There are some other, bigger changes we’ve been working on - I look forward to sharing those with you soon.
What do you think about the site? What would you like to see improved or added?
